What is it like to grow up in a country like the US or any predominantly white country as a non white person?
when everywhere you look in the media its white people. are you pretty much immune & desensitized to it because thats just how its always been or do you think it actually does have an effect? if so, in what way?this question came up because i was thinking about black women & how theyre rarely portrayed in the spotlight. but, ive seen some Caribbean black women who were gorgeous & it got me wondering if growing up in a country that is made up of mostly your own race of people has any kind of effects whether they be bad or good.admiral, apparently you cant read because i specifically said the US. never mentioned the uk.right, so i guess to you the 3 or 5 countries that make up the UK represents the 40 50 or so predominantly white countries.shaniqua, 72 % of americans are white. i can post a source easily. can you for yours?

When minorities move to predominantly white communities in the US, does the property value decrease?
Is there any factual information that alludes to minorities causing the property value to decrease in communities? For example, if a once predominantly white community starts to fill with african american and mexican people just an example. I know there are other minority groups in the US , does the property value, in terms of the selling price people are allowed to ask for their homes, decrease. If it does, why?

I'm not asking this to get a bunch of ignorant answers. It's for an essay I'm writing on the play A Raisin In The Sun. They main characters move from an inner city apartment into a predominantly Caucasian suburban neighborhood and the neighborhood council tries to prevent them from moving in. I was just wondering if there were perhaps any reasons for them not wanting a family of African Americans to move in besides racial prejudice. As in perhaps it would actually affect the neighborhood value or something. Please don't leave any stupid comments I am a pretty open minded person I was just wondering if this was true in the 1950s and if it's still true today.
