What do you think of "color blindness" in the context of race relations?
Why are race relations (between blacks and whites) in many Midwest cities so jagged?
About me I'm a black male in my 20s. I was born and raised in Buffalo,NY. I lived in SC for a few years, and I currently live in Cincinnati, OH. I know race relations can be improved in just about every American city, but midwestern cities seem to be the worst. My job affords me the opportunity to travel the U.S., so I have had the opportunity to experience the west and east coasts, the midwest, and the south. Ironically, I found race relations to be the best in the south. The south has a reputation for being racist, but I found a surprising number of blacks and white not only working together, but gracefully living in the same neighborhoods and even being next door neighbors. You almost never see blacks and white living side by side here in Cincinnati. Additionally, the area of SC I was in is surprisingly diverse. Cincinnati is a big city, but severely lacks in ethnic diversity. There primarily just blacks and whites here, that's it. There really isn't even a noticeable Hispanic and Latino presence, which essentially makes CIncinnati an anomaly in that category for big cities. There seems to be a large disparity between blacks and white here, along with many other midwestern cities. A lot of midwestern cities have a very small visible black middle class. There also seems to be a significant amount of urban decay in the center cities of many large midwestern cities.Activities and amenities catering towards black professionals and black people with class are virtually non existent here. The bad race relations here go both ways, not just from whites to blacks. I routinely hear black people make derogatory about whites, and I've overheard white people making racial slurs about black people in general, slurs directed at people such as sports figures, our mayor, and even the president. There is little interaction between races and many people here seem to be satisfied with that. There are a number of things I don't really care for about the south, but an important aspect, race relations, was significantly better there. I know I have created somewhat of a rant, but I would like to hear some of you guys' opinions.
What would you like to ask?How are Houston's race relations?
Has Obama improved or decreased race relations in the USA?
Seems like things are getting worse and people are more divided now. What do you think?
Why do you think that race relations between the Asian community and the African-American community are?
So bad? Or even non existent? Legit, educated answers. Really not in the mood for trolls. Tavio That's an interesting point, but where I am from New York City the Asians tend to look down on us, actually. Not the other way around. In school, I was an outcast, even picked on by my own people. The Asian kids were also picked on, so I thought maybe I'd mingle with one or two but they treated me like crap. Also, I notice that where I live, the Asians tend to snub Blacks and even some Whites, even though most Asians and whites stick together while most Blacks Hispanics stick together. I'm not sure why this happens, but it happens too much. I can feel the tension in my neighborhood with this situation.
Are race relations in Brazil and the United States similar?
Brazil is generally thought of as being more accepting and less " Black and White" then USA. But it has been argued that they are actually growing to be a lot more a like in their ideas about race. How so?
What were race relations like before 1958 in Britain?

What impact , if any, do you think Hip Hop culture has had on race relations among young ppl?
I know Hip Hop promotes a lot of negative stereotypes about Blacks American ones espescially but I also can't help but feel that the younger generation of Black ppl 30 and below has way more respect from young ppl of other races than thier parents did when they were growing upI mean if you go on YouTube , you can type in any country in the world with the word hip hop, and you'll see White kids from France rapping, white girls from Germany popping and locking, Japanese teenagers dancing to RnB, Middle Eastern kids breakdancing, Korean kids krumping etcThere has been a rise to fame of dance groups like the Jabbawockeez which is made up of ppl from different races who enjoy hip hop dancing the members are Black, Asian and Hispanic , or Diversity in the UK made up on East Insian, Black and White dancers et In many parts of the world, a lot of young ppl think Black ppl are the coolest group on the planet, even in countries that have the caste system which hates dark skinned ppl like India, Indian youth still admire ppl like Jay Z and Beyonce
Do you think that the movie "Crash" is an accurate portrayal of race relations in the US?
Just saw the movie... my initial reaction was that it seemed extremely exaggerated and was purposefully trying to evoke " white guilt." Is that my optimistic ignorance talking? Or are things really like that? I am white, but I live in a city with a significant nearly 50 % Hispanic population, and there are not to my knowledge many pervasive " race issues" like are depicted in " Crash." I was close friends with several minorities at school and they never complained either. Do I just happen to live in a " good" city?
Why do inter-race relations in America seem so much worse than in Europe, Australia, Canada, etc?
Sorry for not being specific. I mean general relations and interactions between people from different racial backgrounds. Specifically racial intolerance and or violence. The way people are referred to, or refer to themselves as 'African American', 'Italian American', 'Mexican American',etc. Seems like, in a way, they want to distance themselves from other Americans, or other people want to be distant from them. I don't know if that's true. It's just seems strange, in the UK everyone is just British and the only time you would use 'African British' or 'White British' is on a census or other sorts of paperwork.
How are the race relations in South Africa today?
I feel like its still taking time to process. But is there still racism or some sort of segregation in South Africa today? Do the White South Africans still resent and mistreat the Black South Africans and other ethnic groups like they did years ago?
Have Race Relations Improved Under Obama?
If they haven't gotten worse.Personally, I think they've worsened. Most black people I know will call you racist if you say anything remotely bad about his presidency I have a black friend who was accuse of being an 'uncle tom' for disliking Obama.I must admit, he's terrible.
